Jet black Postless balustrade fins wrapping a five-storey atrium, balancing privacy from the street with clear views out from every unit. Completed in 2018, The Citizen was developed by urbancollective in Newton, Auckland, built by extending and expanding on top of an existing office building. That expansion, out to one side and back across the rear of the site, created a central atrium with apartments arranged around the opening on every level. UNEX's Finline Postless balustrade was used extensively through this space to meet the brief for a distinctive, high-end finish. The jet black fins minimally obscure penthouse views while forming a solid privacy screen from the street and side-on sightlines. The system runs across the external balconies of every unit on all five floors, as well as the internal walkways connecting them. At ground level, the same Postless style doubles as fencing to secure the bottom-floor units, carrying the same detailing from top to bottom of the building.
