Located just 10 minutes from Queenstown Airport, Woolbrae is a large-scale, sustainable residential development delivered by Kaha Ake. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Remarkables and Kelvin Heights landscapes, the neighbourhood responds to increasing demand for high-quality housing in New Zealand, whilst promoting a connected, community-focused living environment. A defining architectural feature of these homes is the integration of the Louvrelite Window Surround System, which plays a role in shaping this development’s aesthetic identity. Juralco installer, Elevate Building, was the key to installing these surrounds. Rather than treating windows as simple functions, the use of these window surrounds introduces depth, visual interest and layering to the building.

Powder coated to align seamlessly with the existing joinery and cladding palette, this Louvrelite system has been designed to integrate harmoniously with its surrounding environment. Its versatility allows it to complement a wide range of architectural styles, making it an ideal solution for developments seeking both performance and aesthetic integrity. As a non-structural addition to the exterior cladding, this window surround system creates texture without impacting the primary build or compromising on waterproofing performance. This makes it particularly well suited to medium to high density housing developments, where maintaining a balance between design quality and building efficiency is necessary.

In bringing together the two landscapes of the Remarkables Mountain range, and the Kelvin Heights landscape, community-minded planning, and well-resolved architectural detailing, Woolbrae offers a model for a contemporary residential development in New Zealand. This Queenstown neighbourhood ultimately represents considered integration of planning and architectural design. With the Louvrelite Window Surrounds system, this installation demonstrates how non-structural exterior cladding elements can play a formative role in enhancing design outcomes within residential housing models.
