Under Timber Hydronic Heating

Hydronic under timber heating is suitable for large areas (80 m²+) and can be used in a variety of installations where the timber floor is being installed on battens, secret nailed to board, or glued. Hydronic under timber heating is for warming the floor only and has a temperature limit. In most cases, supplementary heating is required to warm the room.

Technical Data

Pipe Type: Cross-linked polyethylene pipe with oxygen barrier

Pipe Diameter: 16mm

Batten Height: Minimum height of 40mm

PIPE TECHNOLOGY

REHAU PEX pipe is specific for underfloor heating. It is a cross-linked polyethylene pipe with an oxygen barrier to prevent corrosion.

HEAT OUTPUT

With under timber hydronic heating, we aim for a heat output of 70W/m². A combination of flow and temperature is balanced to suit the heat load requirement of a room.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Timber flooring must be 'floor heating approved' timber. Speak to your flooring supplier about timbers that are suitable for this application.

Installation

BATTEN INSTALLATION:

Floor heating pipe is installed after the battens are laid. Battens must have a minimum height of 40mm to allow for insulation, pipe diameter, and airspace. The hydronic floor heating pipe is attached to insulation foam and where appropriate, battens require notches to allow for the pipe to move across the floor.

DIFFUSION PLATES:

Floor heating pipe can be installed before (on batten lip) or after (from below) the timber flooring is laid. REHAU diffusion plates are lightweight aluminum plates that evenly distribute the heat and sit directly against the timber flooring, allowing a better transfer of heat. Insulation is required.

SLAB / SCREED: [FLOATING FLOOR] ** BEST RESULTS**

Floor heating pipe is installed within the screed or slab and a glued, floating or secret nailed floor can be installed over the slab. Different installation methods can be utilised so long as the timber floor is NOT fixed to the slab, preventing damage to the pipe. This screed/slab installation has the best results for under-timber heating due to the thermal mass.
