Any wall finish installed in a commercial building must achieve the Group Number specified by the NZ Building Code fire performance requirements. Ask suppliers for test reports; most premium vinyl and textile coverings achieve Group 1-S or 2-S ratings when laminated.

• Measure wall height and width in millimetres.
• Add 100 mm to the height for trimming top and bottom.
• Divide by the roll width to calculate drops; remember pattern repeats can be 250–700 mm.
• Add 10 % wastage for complex rooms or first-time DIY.

Even luxury wallpapers will disappoint if the substrate is flawed. Sand high points, fill dents and apply a pigmented sealer/size. For feature walls consider framing the area with a narrow architrave to hide edge shrinkage in air-conditioned spaces.
