All commercially available ready-made blinds are offered in a wide range of fabrics, colours, and patterns, and there will always be something to suit a room’s decor style.

Fabric Roman Blinds

The range of options within the category of fabric roman blinds is quite vast and includes linen roman blinds, silk roman blinds, and others. It is important to think carefully about what atmosphere you're aiming to achieve before you settle on a particular fabric of Roman blinds.

The fabric chosen can have a dramatic impact on the mood that the blinds bring to[1]  a room. For example, white roman blinds will bring a more youthful, light energy to a room than darker fabric roman blinds would. In this same way, a thinner fabric would bring a more joyful energy to a room while linen roman blinds would bring more of an air of sophistication.

Once the measurements are calculated and the fabric is chosen, you will have to wait for a time while the blinds are tailor-made. Making blinds by hand can be very rewarding, but it is also a major time investment and it leaves a lot of room for error. 

If the folds are not neatly uniform then the overall effect is ruined. But making blinds from scratch means that you will be able to choose exactly what you want, specifically when it comes to fabric options.

Blackout Roman Blinds

Blackout roman blinds are a popular choice for the bedroom as they are the most effective way to block out any unwanted light that could potentially affect or decrease the quality of one’s sleep.

Blackout roman blinds function due to their thick lining, as opposed to standard linings which are significantly thinner with the purpose of allowing some of the outside light to permeate.

There are many types of blackout curtains other than blackout Roman blinds, all of which function based on the thickness and impenetrability of the fabrics used. Blackout Roman blinds can be particularly effective due to the additional structure inherent in their design, a factor that helps block the light with an additional level of efficacy.[2] 

Don’t, however, think that blackout curtains need to be dark in colour. There are white Roman blinds available that are also blackout blinds. As mentioned, they are a particularly popular choice for Bedroom Roman blinds. They can, however, of course, be used in any other room in the house.  

Kitchen Roman Blinds

Kitchen roman blinds are a smart choice. The unique mechanism with which they pull upwards rather than sideways means that they are lifted out of the way of potential stains, inconvenience, or even hazards that can easily occur in a cooking environment.

One of the most popular types of premade kitchen blinds is roller blinds. They are an appealing option as they are generally more streamlined, practical, and simple to operate than other types of blinds. The sheer number of options ensures that you will be able to find kitchen Roman blinds that suit your particular style.

Installing Roman Blinds

Installing Roman blinds is simple. Once you have decided what kind of Roman window blinds you want, you must also decide what type of mount to use.

One option is an interior mount, which means hanging them from the top of the inside of the window frame. Another option is an exterior mount that attaches the blinds to the section of the wall just outside and above the window frame. 

This decision depends on the size ratio of the window to the blinds and on personal taste. The installation process is similar for each choice. Once you have made your decision you can start installing Roman blinds in your home by measuring against the window frame. 

If you have chosen an interior mount then there should be at least 1mm of space in between on either side of the frame, and if you have chosen an exterior mount there should be about 4mm of overlap on either side of the frame.

Install the brackets that came with your custom or premade Roman blinds 2cm from the line of the window frame (either internally or externally) and space the remaining brackets evenly between the outer two. You will be able to click the Roman blinds into place using the brackets.
