This bungalow renovation modernised our clients' home by opening up the living spaces.

We project managed this major renovation of a 1940’s Glen Eden bungalow. In the tradition of that era, the original house layout had many small, dark, separate rooms with not a lot of natural light. Our clients wanted to open up the living spaces and create a new lounge, dining and kitchen with great flow to the outdoors and their covered porch. We also modernised the bathroom and toilet at the same time.

Before building work could begin, we had a suitably qualified asbestos removalist safely take out the layers of old vinyl flooring in the main living spaces and hallway. Our team of builders then set about removing walls and installing additional new piles. New timber flooring was also laid, matching in with the criss-cross of existing native flooring laid in earlier extensions to the original house.

New aluminium joinery was installed in the main entry and the kitchen, connecting their lovely new spaces to the covered outdoor living area. The large stacker doors can be stacked back to either side of the frame, providing the ultimate in flexibility and flow.

The new kitchen has a large central island bench and a mix of engineered stone and stainless-steel benchtops, bringing a nice modern feel to the space. These are beautifully accentuated by the stylish tiled splashback and the simplicity of the tapware, lighting and appliances.

In the dining space, additional storage was created by building in cabinetry and shelving, making a feature of the window on that wall.

The new bathroom has a large open shower with a frameless glass screen. Recessed niches provide storage, and the large format tile creates the impression of a larger space.
