THE OPPORTUNITY: Collaborating with designer Mooi Design presented an exciting opportunity to execute their vision with their client. This project really shows where texture, lighting, and thoughtful material choices converged. The partnership enabled a fluid dialogue between design intent and artisan execution—pushing the boundaries of traditional joinery into a space of bespoke, modern elegance. This refined Canterbury residential project allowed for elevated craftsmanship and timeless sophistication across joinery and cabinetry. The meticulous details from Mooi allowed for the team at Modern to focus on balancing form and function with rich materiality and custom detailing.

THE RESULT: The Chapter Street Project is a showcase of refined craftsmanship and considered design, where each element has been meticulously executed to elevate the overall aesthetic and functionality of the home.

In the living space, the bespoke built-in cabinetry demonstrates a sophisticated approach to joinery, with precision-cut shelving and a muted, olive-toned finish that brings warmth and depth to the room. The cabinetry features delicately integrated brass mesh panels on the lower doors—an artisanal detail that adds texture, contrast, and a hint of glamour. The choice of minimal, brass-finished hardware complements the overall palette, while the addition of directional picture lighting above the shelving subtly highlights curated objects and softens the atmosphere.

The kitchen is a masterclass in balance—blending timeless elegance with contemporary edge. The cabinetry is executed in a classic shaker profile, finished in crisp, soft white to keep the space bright and airy. Statement brass hardware and tapware inject a layer of sophistication, tying into the lighting and other metallic accents used throughout the home. The richly stained timber island creates a bold contrast, grounding the space while offering both practical functionality and visual drama. Topped with a clean, veined marble countertop, the island becomes a sculptural focal point.
