Running parallel to the forest trails and green belt of Mt Victoria, lies Coromandel Street. A street bordered with colonial character villas dating back to the early 1900s, representing the original working-class suburb which in more recent years has been replaced by a diverse community of creatives, immigrants, doctors and students.
This project focused on one such villa, for which the clients wished to reshape the home with a blend of elegance and practicality, all while carefully managing a humble budget. The kitchen and dining areas were the main spaces to be altered, seamlessly integrating them with the exterior to elevate the home's ability to entertain.
Crafted with a refined palette of American white oak and solid stainless steel, the kitchen is simple and hard wearing, yet quietly understated, with a bespoke coffee station serving as the heart of daily rituals. The adjacent dining area was thoughtfully redesigned to provide an inviting space for intimate gatherings. Its connection with the bush-lined views of Brooklyn and the western setting sun made obvious through the installation of large sliding doors, allowing an easy transition between in and out, and inviting natural light and openness into the home.
