Revitalization of the Days Bay Changing Shed enhances public access and safety while preserving the building's character, featuring a contemporary interior, larger doorways, a timber deck, and outdoor amenities for beachgoers.
Judges commented, “The old changing rooms have been revitalised with a contemporary, sculptural interior intervention. It has created a focus toward the public beach while respecting and enhancing the shell of the old building.”
An iconic waterfront building that was crumbling in dis-repair, the alterations to the Days Bay Changing Sheds have given new life to this beachside amenity while retaining its essential character.
The existing building structure has been kept intact, with new larger doorways enhancing access and the public sense of security. A timber deck now wraps around the building, inset boulders and an outdoor shower for bathers.
