Located in a prime position overlooking the Waikato River, the office offers sweeping views north and south—creating a daily connection to the awa. This relationship to the river inspired the overarching design narrative. Drawing on the symbolism of the riverbanks as guides and protectors, the workplace was conceived as a spatial journey—flowing from public client zones to team workspaces. The previously oversized foyer has been transformed into a warm, flexible hospitality space—used daily by staff and easily adapted for client events, training, and hosting. This marks a major shift in how the Hamilton office engages with both its people and its community—bringing generosity, connectivity, and brand expression to the heart of the experience.

Materials and details reflect the Waikato context: warm kōkōwai tones echo natural clay pigments found in local gully systems, while Hinuera stone-inspired tiles reference the texture of the riverbanks. Custom glass graphics and wayfinding throughout the space draw from the flow of the river, and meeting rooms are named after native flora and fauna found along its edge—each paired with bespoke artwork and photography to embed the narrative in a tangible way.
The result is a high-performing workplace that delivers flexibility, cultural relevance, and a strong sense of identity. It supports connection, attracts talent, and strengthens Deloitte’s role as a trusted, embedded partner in the Waikato.

"The transformation of our Hamilton workplace has exceeded our expectations. The Designwell team immediately focused on maximizing our existing space, delivering a key insight we hadn’t realised — just how much potential our footprint held. This efficient approach allowed us to fully embrace hybrid readiness and future growth.

Functionally, the results are outstanding. We successfully integrated both additional social spaces and private offices without sacrificing a single workstation — a testament to the team’s planning expertise. We’ve observed a marked improvement in office utilization and a significant boost in social engagement among our staff.

Perhaps most notably, the new environment has given our team a renewed sense of pride. The high-quality design doesn’t just look professional; it layers in our Waikato brand narrative, making the space a tangible expression of Deloitte’s values and its role in the region. Hosting clients is now a genuine pleasure, as the office itself tells a compelling story.

We’re thoroughly impressed with the positive impact this redesign has had on our productivity, culture, and business image, and we highly recommend this dedicated design team."
