A couple of health scares and retirement a few short years away prompted this couple to finally make plans to build their retirement home on their holiday section in Whangamatā which, housed a garage and utility shed on the back of the site. Our clients wanted to retain these buildings if possible and so the house was designed and placed on the site to achieve this for them.
The additional building affected coverage so it was decided quite early on in discussions to have a two story home to give them the square metres they were looking for but also the views over housing to the harbour from the upstairs kitchen and living area. With health front of mind future proofing this home for their retirement years and any unexpected restrictions in mobility was important to these clients.
The house was designed with wet area fully tiled bathrooms, wheelchair access doors and a lift. Master bedroom, guest room, bathroom, study nook and all living areas were upstairs while the double garage, laundry, additional bedroom and bathroom, sun room and boat garage were downstairs.
In the living area they wanted a covered room that opened onto the deck either side, effectively giving them a sun room for morning sun while the sun room area downstairs leading to the outdoor area gave them a space to enjoy the afternoon and evening sun.
The exterior cladding requested was Palliside, saving on exterior painting and scaffolding costs and future maintenance. A KiwiVac was installed throughout the home as well as a heating and cooling ducted system. A no fuss, easy care retirement home that was perfect for their future needs.
We are Leigh and Katrina, the founders of Home & Lifestyle.
Passionate about property we were always hunting out ideas for the houses we bought, developed and sold. It was more than a hobby for us, it was a passion.
That passion grew to a business when Home & Lifestyle Ltd was born.
Now, we get to live that passion every day. Even better than that, we get to use our passion to create dream homes for our clients too.
Do you spend hours fantasising about your dream home?
Yes, so did we. In fact, our children fondly remember that our most common weekend activity was “open homing”.
It would be our pleasure to help you turn your Home & Lifestyle dreams into reality.
