Tiny homes are very on trend. Environmentally friendly with a tiny (forgive the pun) footprint on the earth, they are also very stylishly Scandi. And Plymasters’ ply has a big part to play in their success. An excellent example is the First Light Tiny House. Designed by First Light Studio, it was built by Build Tiny based in Katikati. The latter company has quite a story of its own. Firmly based around a family, it began when Interior Architecture Graduate Gina Stevens designed and built her own tiny house with the help of builder brother-in-law Jason Airey. Two years later they have 30 perfectly-formed homes to their credit. Gina regularly specifies ply for constructing tiny homes due to it being durable, aesthetically pleasing and lightweight which is important for transport. For the First Light Tiny House, Plymasters’ Euro Poplar was chosen for the walls and ceiling and hardwearing Euro Birch for the floors and stairs. The ply looksmodern and clean and contrasts beautifully with the black exterior of the home. Euro Poplar is a product the company use regularly; “We love the colour and our clients do too". “It has that little bit of warmth but also looks good painted.” Gina says there are also practical benefits of working with ply. “It cuts really well and it’s less back-breaking for the guys.”
