The house was shaded by existing trees both on the site and on adjacent properties, so careful assessment of sunlight hours was undertaken prior to design finalisation.

This renovation project included the addition of a new conservatory area, the refurbishment of a kitchen and breakfast area and re-configuring a storage and study to form a new bathroom, laundry, cellar and library spaces.  

The existing plan and spatial arrangements compromised the use of the spaces. The location of an existing stair restricted the ability to install a north facing window which would greatly enhance the ability for natural light to penetrate the interior spaces and make them more attractive and comfortable to use.

The renovation and alterations were designed as a contemporary update in a sympathetic style to the original home.
