Lemnos Modern Luxe Kitchen

Website

Hidden away in a quiet street in Wellington is a rather special kitchen that features hidden surprises. The client's 1990's blue and surfboard-shaped kitchen was terribly dated and a brief was received by me to make the new design more architecturally sensitive to the era of the house whilst retaining great function, texture and flow within the space.

The existing area did not allow for one single rectangular-shaped island so I came up with the idea of an L shaped island which is not usually seen in NZ. Adjacent sinks ensure that there is no pinch point or workflow clashes between the cook zones and prep zones in the kitchen. Hidden behind the hob are two sliding doors that recess into cavities behind the oven and the rear of the pantry wall. This space houses spices, salts, pepper on one side and the other oils and condiments for cooking. Hidden behind glazed doors is a walk-in pantry with wine fridge, coffee machine, Zenith boiler unit to provide hot, cold and sparkling water. A classic palette of materials and colours complements the rest of the house.

Not shown in the photos is an adjacent living area with beautiful custom-designed furniture, fireplace surround and storage all made in the same materials of Dark Wenge stained Oak veneer. The benchtop is white quartz and the tiles on the front of the kitchen island were handmade Italian damask patterned - soft warm white LED lighting washes over the tiles and throughout the kitchen to add ambience and warmth.
