Long Mile Road Visitor Centre - Concept

Lockwood Homes is proud to be a part of the exciting project to upgrade the existing building within the Whakarewarewa and Tokorangi Forests. With the support of the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment’s Provincial Growth Fund, Rotorua Lakes Council and Iwi are looking to create a hub that embodies the central mana whenua narrative of its location. The focus is on boosting economic development by increasing visitor numbers and providing opportunities for local businesses to thrive.

The Long Mile Road Visitor Centre project involves upgrading or replacing the current centre, originally built by Lockwood in 1970. As a public space welcoming around 500,000 visitors annually, the new design aims to not only enhance the visitor experience but also showcase the use of locally produced materials for broader economic benefits. This initiative is a perfect example of collaboration between various stakeholders to create a space that truly reflects the essence of its surroundings.
