We managed the lighting design for a pop-up department store in Old Selfridges Hotel with Tom Dixon. The concept was dramatic, futuristic and theatrical in theme. Multiplex was part of the London Design Festival 2015.
The lighting was set up on stage rigging sets with source four and par can type light fittings. A mixture of suspended rafts and rigging totems allowed distribution. Existing fluorescent lamps were covered in colour gels to give each zone a different feel. Others were turned off to decrease diffused light and increase drama. Careful focussing and use of barn doors allowed for specific pools of light and shadowing effects which made the shopping experience move into the 22nd Century.
