NZME - Christchurch Office Fit-out:

PJM Project Management Ltd were privileged to recently provide client-side project management services to New Zealand Media & Entertainment, supporting their relocation into the historic 1930’s Christchurch Municipal Electrical Department Building (MED).

Following significant damage in the 2010-11 Christchurch Earthquakes, the MED was purchased in 2018 by developers Box 112 and sympathetically restored. NZME’s new office is housed within the 1930’s MED historical building, originally a substation forming part of Christchurch’s Municipal Electrical Department. Three Sixty Architecture led the restoration, keeping the classically styled plaster façade and distinctive metal triangular windows. The building retains many of the original features including high ceilings, steel trusses and timber sarking.

The MED was reopened in 2022 and now the new home of: media business NZME, an art gallery, and several technology companies. The NZME office houses their media brands including radio stations Newstalk ZB, and ZM, the New Zealand Herald newspaper and various websites.

PJM were engaged by NZME as their project representative to lead the design management and construction observation and to provide coordination between the developer, their consultants, contractor, and the NZME project team.

Our scope of services covered client-side project management, overseeing compliance with the agreement to lease, the integrated fit-out programme, and NZME’s specific performance specifications for quality, studio acoustics, and broadcasting equipment.

The end result is a project the entire team can all be proud of.
