Nestled in the mountains, this exceptional home designed by Hofmans Architects, harmonizes seamlessly with its surroundings through a thoughtful selection of sympathetic materials. Stepping onto the property, one is immediately struck by its deep-rooted presence, enriched by recycled timbers and natural stone.
The Poolburn blend stone, meticulously laid in a stacked style by Clearwater Stonemasons, finds perfect companionship in the warmth of hardwood beams and the rustic charm of weathered cladding. Both inside and out, recycled materials weave a narrative of enduring luxury, speaking volumes about the home's commitment to sustainability.
With meticulous attention to detail, every aspect of the design speaks of longevity and comfort, inviting inhabitants to a quiet retreat from modern life. The entrance, adorned with feature flagstones, sets the stage for the light-filled interior, while large barn doors enhance the intimate ambiance of the living space.
Outside, the landscape unfolds into a symphony of natural beauty, with a fire pit offering a tranquil space for contemplation amidst mountain vistas. Two outdoor entertainment areas, thoughtfully sheltered from prevailing winds, beckon gatherings, while a spa nestled beside a natural stream provides a sanctuary for relaxation.
Softening the landscape's edges, schist paving and flagstones add texture and character, while the carport, finished with Cluden paving, seamlessly blends function with elegance. In every detail, this home emerges as a testament to sustainable luxury and timeless design.
Wanaka Stone Ltd has been supplying high quality schist products since 2014, now supplying rock from two iconic Central Otago quarries. Both Poolburn and Cluden Stone Quarries have stood the test of time, having been operational for over 30 years each. Both quarries produce reliable, consistent stone and will still be operating for many decades to come.
Wanaka Stone Ltd provides schist stone from the Cluden Stone Quarry near Tarras and Poolburn Stone Quarry located in the Ida Valley, the heart of Central Otago. Cluden Stone is known for its earthy blue-grey and golden brown tones while Poolburn Stone is quintessential Central Otago schist with steely greys and plenty of brown, bronze and russet tones. Stone has been used for decades as a permanent cladding and to create beautiful features in homes and commercial buildings. It is low maintenance, timeless and distinctive.
Wanaka Stone Ltd provides a professional service that operates fully licenced and permitted operations ensuring a consistent and reliable supply. Using cutting edge technology – imported guillotines with 24 cutting teeth – we are able to deliver top-quality schist and value for money.

Schist is a naturally formed building material with limited mechanical inputs, resulting in minimal carbon footprint. Massive quantities of rock are constantly forming and reforming in nature. The quantities extracted by us are negligible when compared to natural erosion rates.
