The Addition

Set within a heritage area of Mount Eden, The Addition transforms an early 20th-century cottage into a generous contemporary family home. The original street-facing façade was retained, while a contrasting two-storey addition to the rear creates open-plan living with a strong connection to the garden. A sculptural plywood staircase forms the centrepiece of the new interior, complemented by polished concrete, crisp white cabinetry and a richly veined black granite island. The result is a deliberate contrast between old and new, retaining the character of the original cottage while creating a distinctly contemporary home behind it.

“Samantha (Sam) Elliot from ‘Studio Elliot’ has been fabulous to work with on our extensive villa renovation. She is an absolute gem and someone we would love to work with again. Sam is a highly experienced design practitioner, with extensive knowledge, connections and ideas to really bring out the best in any space. We found her personable, knowledgeable, thorough, detail focused and thoughtful. Sam listens to what you are thinking or want, layering in ideas to create spaces that are practical, inviting and look fabulous! Our villa is now modern yet timeless, and functional yet refined. Our home feels calm and considered to live in ...we LOVE it! Sam was also well regarded by the rest of our build team and a true asset to the project. We feel lucky to have been recommended Sam, she definitely stands out from the crowd in the best way!”
