The Nak banner

The Nak is a rural adaptive reuse project of some extreme.  Located at the forest edges of Trafalgar in Victoria’s Gippsland region, this building was once used as a knackery, hence the name.

The client wanted to enjoy simple livability and connection with the bush and be able to lock and leave for periods of time.  An open plan mezzanine bedroom was created at the upper level to view into the tree canopy with a private bathroom, able to be opened up to the conditions with a large slider below.  Natural light was provided  by saw cutting the block-work down to ground level at each of the high level windows.  This created an abundance of natural light and pathways for cross ventilation throughout the structure.
