BEFORE RENOVATION
Simon had a clear vision for a luxurious ensuite with black fittings and tiles, while maintaining the existing layout but replacing the drop-in bath with a walk-in shower. Given the bungalow-style house with Rimu interior walls, Simon opted for a barn door to preserve the home’s unique character.
The dated drop-in bath and existing layout were identified as areas requiring attention. Simon aimed to replace the bath with a walk-in shower for both aesthetic and practical reasons. His choice of black color fittings and tiles reflected a desire for a sophisticated and contemporary look.
Being in a bungalow-style house with Rimu interior walls, the project retained the house’s unique character. Simon opted for a barn door instead of a sliding door, blending modern upgrades with the existing style.

Overall look & feel
The renovated ensuite is a harmonious blend of modern luxury and timeless elegance. As you enter, a seamless fusion of sophistication and contemporary style unfolds. The atmosphere is warm, with rich, contrasting tones that visually captivate. Meticulously curated details evoke opulence, from the glossy French-themed tiles to the muted Rimu interior walls.
The layout enhances spaciousness, creating an open and inviting environment. The frameless walk-in shower with coated tempered glass adds to the sense of airiness, while the barn door integrates modern upgrades with the bungalow-style home. Bold black fittings and tiles provide a striking contrast, achieving a carefully balanced mix of contemporary design and timeless charm.
The renovated ensuite is a sanctuary of indulgence, meeting modern standards while reflecting the unique personality of the homeowner.
Materials
The ensuite features a custom-made 1*1.8m frameless walk-in shower with tempered glass and Enduro Shield coating to minimize water stains. The floor and wall tiles are French-themed glazed Porcelain tiles in 600mmx600mm from Tile Depot, creating a seamless and grand appearance.
Waterproofing is ensured with full Aqualine GIB and Technokolla waterproof products. To maintain the style and substance, a proper extractor fan is installed in the ceiling.
Bathroom Cabinets and Storage:
Ensuite storage is elegantly incorporated with a 750mm wall freestanding Malik Rubik vanity from Reece Plumbing. Additional storage comes from a 750mm white mirror cabinet, offering space for shavers, toothbrushes, etc. LED mirror lights from Lighting Plus enhance both functionality and aesthetics.
Fixtures, Fittings, and Appliances:
The ensuite boasts a Mizu range from Reece Plumbing, featuring Matt Black tone fittings, including a basin mixer, HTR, shower mixer, slider with overhead rain shower, and a Kado Lux CCBTW toilet.
Resene Alabaster interior painting complements the tiles, with Stardust Milk soft 597x597mm for the bathroom floor and Universal Nain 610x1220mm for a stunning feature wall.
The barn door from Door Shed adds a unique touch with Matt Black accessories and track, providing a unique touch to the bathroom entry.
Overall outcome
The result is a fresh, elegant, and fully functional ensuite that seamlessly matches the house’s style. The black tone fittings create a beautiful contrast with the tiles and light-colored wall paint. All communication between the project manager and owner was efficiently conducted through emails, ensuring clear decision-making and regular project updates. The ensuite comes with a 2-year workmanship warranty, a 15-year waterproof warranty, PS4 certificates from the Council, and Electrical Code of Compliance certificates. All fittings and tiles are covered by a 10-year supplier warranty.
