A residential build on the Wairakei Golf Course and Sanctuary, in Taupo for Christian Anderson Architects

The design was based around enclosing an exposed loggia that was exposed to the prevailing wind to create an warm setting with unimpeded views through very slim window and door frames. Having the ability to slide open on tracks to be fully ventilated in the summer months.

It was an unusual project because it was designed to be as minimal as possible as it wasn't required to be completely weathertight, so minimal frames around the windows and doors were used to keep as much of the view as possible. The sliding panels simply closed against the existing timber columns. It highlighted how versatile steel joinery is in all manner of designs

The problem was a very exposed site perched at the top of a hill on the Wairakei Gold Course, with very cold, heavy winds in the winter months. Providing maximum outlook with the slimmest window and door frames possible and framing the views out to the sanctuary

We eliminated the frames of the doors and windows and simply had the sliding door and window panels fixed and sliding between the timber columns, maintaining a completely minimalistic design across the whole loggia
