The original villa was built in 1880, seen here with its new transformation by Scarlet Architects.
The new vertical shiplapped cedar-clad addition at the rear of the villa is stained dark to provide a clear distinction between old and new.

The sleek monochromatic kitchen in black, white and stainless steel.
The kitchen ceiling is lower than the ceiling in the dining area, which features high clerestory windows that draws light into the space.

The open-plan multi-use space in the new extension features polished concrete floors throughout.
The window seat under a bi-folding door provides a quiet space overlooking the garden.

A built-in display case lines the steps up to the villa corridor.
The villa hallway features arches, board-and-batten ceilings and kauri floors.
