Iver’s Brunswick range helped this Brisbane home, with its linear construction and curvaceous interior elements, come together under one aesthetic threshold.
Refined Design
Newbuilds need to be both visually appealing and comfortable to live in. Striking that equilibrium—creating something that’s a balance of the new and the familiar—is a challenge for even the most accomplished of architects. Stanton Architects went all in on Chelmer Project, creating a building which seeks to realise this, overlooking the flowing aspects of the Brisbane River.
“This project was a 2–3-year design and construction journey located in Chelmer, Brisbane, positioned to take full advantage of views over the Brisbane River,” they say. “The home is a contemporary build with classic architectural throwbacks, balancing modern form with timeless detail.” To achieve this, the building itself leans towards the linear, with the interior elements — like the curvaceous kitchen island, rounded coffee bar, sofas and armchairs, not to mention the surrounding natural landscape — more inclined towards the organic. “The structural approach combined clean, simple lines with high-quality natural materials, including stone and steel-framed windows,” continue the architects. “Extensive landscaping was designed to soften the overall form. The result is a spacious, refined residence with an emphasis on light, proportion, and material integrity.”
Enduring Materials
Highlighting natural materials succeeds in maintaining an aesthetic that is grounded; familiar. “The vision for the project was to create a home that blended contemporary sensibilities with classic inspiration. We aimed to use simple, enduring materials in a way that felt natural, understated, and timeless. Stone, steel, and textured finishes provided the architectural foundation, while greenery was integrated throughout to soften the structure and enhance the connection to landscape.”
Inside, the palette was largely restricted to calm, relaxed tones of cream, off-white and brown. “Interior finishes were intentionally bright, airy and neutral, creating a calm backdrop that allows key details—such as the dark bronze hardware elements—to stand out,” say Stanton Architects. “The palette and styling paid homage to traditional craftsmanship but with a refined, modern execution, ensuring the home felt both current and enduring.”
Design-led Architectural Hardware
The architecture studio utilised Iver’s Brunswick range to complete their vision for this home. “The selection and integration of architectural hardware played an important role in reinforcing the overall design aesthetic,” they explain. “We sought hardware that was contemporary yet carried a subtle classic character—something streamlined, tactile, and visually striking without overwhelming the simplicity of the interior.”
Iver immediately came to mind. “Iver hardware was selected for this project due to its combination of high-quality materials, refined detailing, and breadth of finish options,” say the architects, who opted to use both the Brunswick Pull Handle and Lever with Round Rose in the house. “The solid brass construction provided the level of durability and weight we were looking for, while the bronze finish aligned perfectly with the classic-meets-contemporary design approach.”
A Cohesive Design Language
Using the Brunswick collection meant consistency throughout the home, which helped bring the entire interior together. “Iver’s comprehensive, whole-of-home offering allowed us to maintain consistency across all touchpoints, ensuring every piece—from entry kits to interior levers—worked cohesively.”
Ultimately, Stanton Architects want this to be a home for the ages; not the short-term. “Durability and longevity were essential considerations, ensuring the hardware would not only complement the design language but also withstand daily use while retaining its beauty,” they say. “The hardware became a unifying thread throughout the home, adding depth and contrast against the neutral interior palette. Iver’s blend of craftsmanship, quality, and aesthetic versatility made it the ideal choice for bringing the hardware component of this project to life.”
