Southern Breeze Project

A home in Sydney’s harbourside Balgowlah Heights gets the coastal treatment, with a palette of pale blues, clean whites and sandy timbers creating a space that whispers of seaside delight. Relaxed Minimalism “Inspired by a coastal Hamptons style, the aesthetic is light and bright with a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere that lends itself to family living,” says Sally Paterson, codirector of design studio Heliconia, who worked on the emotively-named Southern Breeze home. “The design intent leans toward clean lines, minimalism, and a refined yet relaxed aesthetic.” Southern Breeze spans over two floors, with the renovation taking in major changes to the building, including a rejigged entrance, new staircase and mudroom. “Each space was considered with care, resulting in a functional, timeless, light-filled residence that reflects our client’s lifestyle and love for relaxed, yet refined living,” says Paterson. Coastal Glow The kitchen was utterly transformed, “The beautifully reimagined kitchen was designed to draw natural light into the heart of the home,” says Paterson. A triple skylight facilitates this drenching of sunlight, which splashes onto the expansive island and dapples on the overhead cabinets which are adorned with the golden hues of Iver’s Helsinki Cabinet and T Cabinet Pulls in Brushed Brass. “We selected the Iver Helsinki range as it is a high quality and timeless product that works seamlessly in this coastal home,” says Paterson. “Incorporating the solid Brushed Brass finish offers a beautiful warm tone that complements the neutral palette, adding character and depth.” Two overhead pendants continue the trend, their cores slicked in gold, bringing warm accents into a cool-toned room, while the splashback tiling helps to soften it with its subtly haphazard configuration in faintly-different shades of pastel. Luxurious Touchpoints Iver’s Brushed Brass Helsinki Levers create pops of gold in both the social, living areas and walk-through rooms like hallways, “The whole-of-home options in the Iver range made it so easy to match door levers, pull handles and hinges,” says Paterson, noting the importance of consistency for this project. Functional spaces, like the bathrooms and laundry, also benefit from the Iver treatment, the hardware adding an element of luxury into spaces which might feel transitory otherwise. “The house feels warm and inviting, visually calm, and effortlessly stylish,” says Paterson, “with a curated aesthetic that reflects a love of coastal living, quality craftsmanship, and timeless design.” It’s a home for a family who love the sea, and who want to go to bed at night with its peaceful trills, both audible and visual, on their minds.
