The Dunedin Town Hall redevelopment is a $45m project of substantial civic importance. The project includes the complete upgrade of the historic Municipal Chambers, Dunedin Centre, and the Dunedin Town Hall.

A cohesive performance, theatrical, and conferencing complex will be created. The buildings are Heritage Listed Category A which requires an architectural approach consistent with the significance of the heritage values. Where new elements have been integrated, these are readily identified as a tasteful intrusion that allows the history of the work to be easily recognised, yet still in keeping with the original integrity of the buildings.

The Municipal Chambers are a $4m stage within the larger $45m contract. The major focus has been on upgrading the facility to make it fit for purpose and code compliant, enabling it to meet current operational requirements. As part of this upgrade, the Municipal Chambers have undergone significant alterations to provide flexible conferencing spaces, with connectivity features as would be expected of a modern facility.

The upper floor of the Municipal Chambers also serves to provide a civic function, and as part of the redevelopment, the Dunedin City Council Chambers have also been renovated to the highest standard incorporating state of the art technology.
