East Melbourne Residence

Set within a prominent city-fringe building, this extensive apartment refurbishment transforms a generously scaled residence into a refined and highly considered contemporary home. Positioned on an upper level, the apartment takes full advantage of expansive views across Melbourne, with the interior planning carefully reshaped to strengthen the relationship between the home and its outlook.

A redesigned ceiling scheme and revised spatial layout establish a greater sense of openness and continuity between rooms, while allowing natural light to penetrate deeper into the interior. Practicality was equally important to the brief, with materials selected for their longevity, durability and ease of maintenance without compromising the overall level of finish.

The interior is defined by highly detailed architectural elements and a rich but restrained material palette. French oak parquetry, natural travertine detailing and full-height custom doors establish a strong architectural framework, complemented by warm timber veneers, smoky mauve quartzite and handcrafted wall finishes. Bespoke carpets, custom hardware and purpose-made fixtures add another layer of refinement, reinforcing the sense that every component has been individually considered.

Lighting plays an integral role throughout the apartment, combining concealed and ambient illumination with decorative feature pieces to emphasise materiality, form and atmosphere. The result is a layered interior that shifts subtly throughout the day and into the evening.

The furniture selection continues the balance between sophistication and comfort, pairing contemporary pieces with carefully chosen antiques that reference the more classical elements of the home.

Through thoughtful planning, custom detailing and exceptional craftsmanship, the finished apartment feels both elegant and highly liveable. The architecture and interiors remain intentionally composed, providing a calm and timeless setting while allowing the panoramic city views to remain a defining feature of the home.
