“This project was about creating a dialogue between the rich tapestry of the home’s historical roots and the refined simplicity of contemporary design,” says Sohail Masoudi, Director of By Soma.

The interior palette responds to the history of the home. Natural tones and meticulous detailing – think exquisite timber joinery, striking marble finishes, and elegant fluted glass – is complemented throughout by Tongue & Groove solid European Oak boards in the Bistre finish.

“It was the perfect choice,” says Masoudi. “The natural tone and texture of the Tongue & Groove boards brings an essential layer of depth to the interior and serves as a sophisticated blank canvas that allows the other finishes and details to shine.”

The Tongue & Groove boards were laid in a chevron pattern and framed with straight plank borders, which allowed By Soma to design precise transitions and thresholds throughout the home. The limed blonde tones of the Bistre finish also bring a sense of light into the interior, which was an essential consideration on a narrow block with limited natural light.

“The finish brightens the rooms and was integral to our design strategy,” explains Masoudi. “It really enhances the overall aesthetic.”

The result is a timeless home that celebrates the beauty of bespoke craftsmanship and is testament to how thoughtful design can harmoniously blend past and present.
