Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home sits quietly at the end of a leafy cul-de-sac in one of Auckland's most-loved city-fringe suburbs. The site itself is a delightful oddity — a triangular block with a steep slope to the rear — calling for creativity and a touch of whimsy in its design. A parking area greets you at street level before the ground steps gracefully down to the front door, with thoughtful design making the most of every inch inside. Colour-blocking becomes a playful way to distinguish the home's inner worlds. Graphic olive and white tiles mark the arrival moment; the kitchen glows in slate green; a dusky blue sideboard settles the dining room; the living space rests in sandy beige; and pale, dreamy pinks signal the hardworking laundry and scullery. Upstairs, bold patterned wallpapers bring joy and energy to each of the three bedrooms. At the heart of it all is the snug — a treasured, deep-maroon retreat that doubles as a media room. The whole palette is intentionally a little mismatched yet deeply harmonious, creating a sense of sweet nostalgia: warm, familiar and wonderfully homely. Rogan Nash Architects also achieved a Homestar rating for the home, proof that beauty and sustainability can live comfortably side by side. This colour-led approach to interior architecture has been widely recognised, winning the Kitchen category at the 2024 Interior Awards and being named Interior of the Year by HOME magazine, alongside features in HOME and Homestyle.
