The Huffer House in Britomart stands as the inaugural store in a series intended to be introduced by the brand, adopting the ‘house’ concept. This concept was developed to create an inviting and sociable space, promoting an open-door policy for the wider community. Beyond just a shopping destination, it's designed as a place to socialize, hang out, and actively contribute. The layout loosely mimics a typical house, featuring a central kitchen, a social space akin to a living room, and 'bedrooms' where capsule collections are individually showcased.
Situated in the Buckland Building in Britomart, an iconic heritage structure refurbished and upgraded as part of the Hotel Britomart project, the store embodies a blend of history and modernity.
At the heart of the store stands the yellow desk (kitchen), symbolizing the brand's commitment to mental health. Functioning as a counter, its design references an old cutting table used in fashion garment production. It not only offers a place for transactions but also includes a coffee machine, seating, and data/audio connections, serving as a social hub for friends, conversations, and community events.
The 'bedrooms' are represented by light boxes on the floor with suspended hanging grids, displaying the brand's offerings. Central sofas in the 'living room' encourage socializing and offer moments of respite. Additionally, a community board is provided for all to contribute, and a deconstructed video wall tells the brand's story.
Aesthetically, the design aims to showcase the historic character of the building while incorporating contrasting modern materials and finishes. An eclectic mix of modern and vintage furniture and lighting is used throughout, creating an ambiance that merges the historical essence with contemporary elements.
