An entertainment experience like no other.

A playful and engaging space to attract new customers.

Ignite was engaged to redesign the traditional bowling alley model to make it more relatable to a younger demographic in the Australian market. The result maintains the look and feels of the client’s original brand vision while improving its cost-effectiveness, operational efficiency, and patron appeal across all Kingpin locations.

With the venue needing to close for the refit, all construction, upgrades, and fit-out needed to occur in a very tight time period. The key to achieving this was maintaining a collaborative relationship with contractors, the local council, and the client.

“Ignite has developed a playful, highly engaging, and authentic experience that strongly appeals to patrons and celebrates the unique needs of each location.”
- Jose Dall'asta, Associate Director

The traditional bowling alley format is aimed at league players who arrive, play a game, and depart – leaving little room for adding value, which had resulted in a declining customer base.

A key design move across the Kingpin tenancies was to strategically remove some of the existing bowling lanes. This allowed the design to accommodate larger arcade and entertainment spaces while expanding the dining areas with bespoke experiences – all with the aim of encouraging customers to stay longer and enjoy what’s on offer.

Chef-curated bistro-style menus are served from the likes of themed serveries, food trucks, and Kombi vans. These provide the flexibility to find the ideal size for the space and create a sense of fun that appeals to the clientele.

The dynamic interior fit-outs feature distressed leather with gold trim furnishings, metal and rustic wood finishes, and designer lighting that create engaging environments where patrons are encouraged to ‘settle-in’.

The design scope included everything from seating layouts, façade upgrades, signage design, and amenity upgrades through to kitchen and bar equipment layout designs. Ignite has been involved in the design of Kingpin locations at North Strathfield, Chermside, Canberra, Harbourside, Townsville, Norwood, Darwin, and Crown.
