Built into the sand dunes of Mount Maunganui beach, the house is spread over three levels with the master bedroom on the top floor overlooking the beach. The brief expressed the idea of creating a solid concrete formed house. Positioned against the coastal boundary to allow a direct connection with the beach and coast line. Nestled behind the house is a large sheltered private courtyard, sunken lounge and entry.

"The coastal home offers five bedroom throughout approximately 300 square metres, and features its own private, direct path to the beach beyond — reinforcing the project’s original purpose as a home very much connected to the surrounding water. Although the dwelling’s nature is relaxed as befits its location, the design approach speaks to a refinement perhaps not expected in the area — advanced detailing, expansive glass and contemporary convenience typify this home."
