Nga Waka Cellar Door is a masterpiece constructed by Holmes Construction in collaboration with Aspect Architects in 2022. Situated on the outskirts of Martinborough, this greenfield site provides visitors with a stunning backdrop of the Nga Waka winery, surrounded by vineyards and the Remutaka hill ranges. Inspired by the legendary Māori explorer Kupe, the building offers a unique setting to sample the renowned Nga Waka wine.
The project includes the Cellar Door tasting room, an office, commercial kitchen, and meticulously designed landscaping. Featuring lightweight timber construction, corrugated iron cladding, decorative trusses, and an abodo feature wall, the attention to detail is exquisite. The building's orientation creates a sheltered courtyard where visitors can gather and enjoy a glass of Nga Waka pinot, paying homage to the surroundings.
