By Donna White Interior Design
This Master Bedroom was a finalist in the NZ House & Garden Best Interior Awards 2019.
When Donna re-imagined this master bedroom, two things were key : that the décor not detract from the garden view and that existing favourite furniture and accessories were re-used.
Central to the design was a commissioned oil painting by Tatjana Este and a Mororccan-style pendant light that had been gifted to the owners.
In Donna’s travels she’d come across a fabric with camels which she’d always loved, and it was perfect used for cushions to tie in both the beautiful colours in the art and the Mororccan-style pendant. The final touch was a Kentia palm along with palm leaf bedside lamps.
The NZ House & Garden judges said “Working with existing pieces to create an eclectic look is hard to pull off. This room has a romantic and colonial feel.”
Donna's design philosophy is 'Classic Design with a Twist'.
Donna is a Professional Member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand (PDINZ).
Donna studied full-time at Inchbald School of Design in London (affiliated with the University of Wales), and graduated in 2002 with a PGDIP in Architectural Interior Design. She is one of a few New Zealanders to have received this qualification from this prestigious design school.
Working in Europe…
After graduation, Donna chose to stay in the UK to take advantage of exciting work opportunities. These included a 50-room Spanish Hunting Lodge (formerly owned by the King of Spain, now owned by a member of British Aristocracy), conversion of a redundant 18th century church into a contemporary home, and the design of a child’s playroom for the children of a Saudi Prince.
