Client: Waikato District Council
Location: Ngarunui Beach, Raglan
Year of completion: 2020
Value: $386K
The design and build of a new public toilet and shower facility and upgrade of existing carpark toilets.
The project site is located in an area of interest for members of the public. It is adjacent to the main access point of Ngarunui Beach. There is a steep sealed access track/roadway down to the project site with limited space for equipment and parking of vehicles adjacent to the site. Lobell was responsible for maintaining emergency vehicle access and pedestrian access to the beach, as well all their own site security throughout construction.
Keeping things environmentally friendly this design included four compostable toilets with roof turbine ventilators and four showers that drain to ground.
The beach front location requires appropriate material selections to withstand this environment such as stainless steel fittings, fixtures and handrails and membrane flooring to toilet areas.
The finished build was complete with wheelchair-accessible ramp, timber seat and integrated timber panel screen and surfboard rack.
Our response from the community was positive and it’s a good example of a design and build contract that ticks all the boxes.
