St.Alma is unique in that the brief was to create something that didn’t fall into a typical ‘Mexican’ style. It is bold and courageous with a colourful and textural palette, yet at the same time approachable and, in the true style of Mexico, it is down to earth with a refined and edgy twist.

Representing a new approach to a beachside venue, St.Alma draws inspiration from the surrounds but plays with these elements bravely and unexpectedly. The fresh and light base palette in response to the coastal setting is challenged by punchy burgundy highlights, terracotta, green and mustard accents, which talk back to its Mexican heritage. The colour blocked entrance and bar are key focal points to the design and draws people into this soulful local eatery.

The public response has far exceeded our expectations in so many ways, six months on we are still operating at 95% occupancy. The most frequent comment by patrons after dining with us is they loved the ‘vibe’, for me this highlights the ability of Five Foot One to seamlessly integrate a number of different design elements to elevate the diners experience while they are in our venue, and keep them thinking about it long after.”
