With the original design brief stating the clients desired an open plan three bedroom family home which maximised space and sunlight all these requirements had to be delivered on a small section.

A bulkhead ceiling in the open plan kitchen, living and dining area adds extra height and in turn creates amazing feelings of space and freedom.  A set of floor to ceiling height cavity sliders ensure a smooth heat transfer and separate the open plan living area and media room which enjoys the modern luxury of surround sound.

With a dedication to heating the large open plan living area via a multi-fuel burner the clients did not want to compromise the outward appearance of the living area.  In order to conceal the burner this meant double skinning the fireplace with a cement board that had to be vented in the roof space.  Window space has been maximised and as a direct effect of this, the home now enjoys more sunlight hours.

The inbuilt shelving which features in the living room was a functional design technique and although time consuming and costly to install, the impact they make in the room is both sophisticated and practical.  With the dynamics of family living respected throughout this home – it also includes three double bedrooms, a separate office, a main bathroom and an ensuite.
