Perched above Lake Manapouri, Cabot Villa is a piece of luxury accommodation designed to engage directly with its extraordinary Fiordland setting. Drawing from the geometry of the wider Cabot Lodge, the plan adopts a subtle faceted form, allowing multiple spaces to open toward different aspects of the landscape. A central living area anchors the home, with two private suites positioned at either end to create separation and retreat. Floor-to-ceiling glazing frames expansive views, while a restrained palette of cedar cladding and natural finishes grounds the architecture within its rural context. Compact in scale yet expansive in experience, the Villa balances openness with shelter, offering a refined and immersive connection to place.

Professional Reviews

“We had Matt Anderson-Stewart of MAS Architecture design our home in Otatara. Throughout the entire design process, we found Matt to be extremely professional, efficient and responsive. Matt was very meticulous in his planning and worked to our brief whilst enhancing our vision for what we wanted. Matt would always listen to our ideas, research the materials and advise on what options were best suited. Our site came with a few challenges, of which Matt would engage in further research and was extremely co-operative with liaising with local council. Matt designed our home that is not only great to live in, but aesthetically pleasing with a creative edge. As a result of Matt’s architectural touch, along with our builder, we have a home which we are absolutely thrilled with and adore! We would recommend Matt to anyone looking to foresee an architectural project and would definitely use him again if we embarked on another project.”
