FMG Building - Thermosash | ArchiPro

FMG Building

The FMG Building is located within the Christchurch International Airport development area. This project won the commercial section of the 2021 Canterbury Architecture Awards.

The development is a two storey commercial space with the lower level slightly set back on the North, East and West elevations.  The lower lever is rectangular in plan, while the upper level has a facetted form to the North elevation. The construction of the façade is predominantly unitised curtainwall, with some areas of exposed in situ structural concrete and areas of solid aluminium sheet cladding over the cavity.  The upper level is Thermosash engineered high performance PW1000 unitised curtainwall with integrated solar shading devices and aesthetic feature fins, while to the lover level the same curtainwall system is installed as a window-wall with integrated doors.

The integration of the horizontal and diagonal fins into our high performance PW1000 curtainwall was the biggest challenge in this project. Thermosash designed and engineered a complex steel bracketry system to connect the fins from both directions into the curtainwall, while also managing the maintenance load requirements and maintaining architectural intent.

Thermosash delivers engineered building facade solutions using our trusted and proven systems, offering increased value in terms of ongoing trust, performance, durability and longevity in product lifespan. We engineer, manufacture and install bespoke solar and aesthetic devices that integrate with our systems without the need for additional structure by other trades.
