A thoughtfully designed residence featuring a single pitch sloping roof that harmonizes with the natural terrain, offering stunning views of the Kaikoura ranges and the ocean, while creating a gradual reveal of space and light as one moves through the home.

A single pitch sloping roof follows the natural ground angle of the site but in reverse. This allowed us to compress the entry/garage areas and slowly reveal the views and sky through space and volume increasing gradually as you move further inside the home.

The main gallery spine aligns to the Kaikoura ranges, so on entry you get visual transparency through the building, across the ocean and to the mountains on a clear day.

Professional Reviews

1 / 3

“Aaron and Anne at Urbanfunction were a pleasure to deal with. They listened carefully to our brief and our ideas and produced a design well beyond our expectations. They were flexible, accommodating and extremely practical with their approach and we would recommend them to anyone considering a new build.”
