The client brief for a modern, open plan design includes a wine fridge and island seating, welcoming you into the social space.

The narrow kitchen space is highly visible from the main entrance and connects to the dining, living and double height circulation space, so integrated appliances and concealed pantry storage were used for a seamless and tidy finish. Its location within the home makes the most of the morning sun. 

For the kitchen to be an integral part of the home and to create a strong connection with the overall design of the house, the architectural elements of the home were repeated and layered throughout. A brick wall runs from the exterior of the house, through the entrance hall, to meet the kitchen cabinetry. The aged red brick is complemented by the ivory oak timber veneer of the tall cupboards, that also feature in the wall and stair lining. Running perpendicular to the oak cupboards, is a long kitchen bench with soft green cabinets and a Caesarstone 'Airy Concrete' benchtop. White mosaic tiles add texture to reflect the brick nearby, while the benchtop enhances the lightly polished concrete floor. The curved overhead cupboards conceal the rangehood and repeat the same curved form used in the exterior planters. The same material palette of timber, concrete, tiles and soft green are repeated on the island bench.

The brass tapware and bar handles throughout the kitchen add a sense of luxury to the otherwise humble materials used.
