Versatile and collaborative study centre offers endless opportunities for learning.

The Ringwood Secondary College community was wrapped with the recently completed Junior School Building we designed for them, so our team were invited back to design and deliver stage 2, a cohesive, multipurpose Senior School Study Centre.

Previously an outdated building with a disconnected group of classrooms, the new Senior School Study Centre was designed for flexibility. A split-level learning hub offered efficient use of space and varied opportunities for learning and study.

The ground level consists of classrooms arranged around a versatile central space, kitchenette, study nooks and tiered seating. A mezzanine on the upper level overlooks this space and includes a casual break-out area, IT rooms and media rooms. A bridge on the upper level connects through to Ringwood Training Centre, allowing the community to access IT facilities after hours.

Operable glass walls separate classrooms creating visual connections and allowing for reconfigurable spaces to collaborate or spill out into the central areas. Large skylights filter natural light through to the core of the building whilst cross-flow ventilation and night purging cools the central spaces.

Located on a sloping site, we designed the building to be universally accessible, including ramps and lifts where required, and remedied any existing non-DDA compliant elements.
