Monks Spur

This home located on the slopes of Moncks Spur, Redcliffs, was badly damaged during the Canterbury 2011 earthquakes but deemed reparable. What that meant, in reality, was major structural changes to the home, as well as the demolition of approximately one-quarter of the home. The new plans capitalised on the stunning views over Redcliffs and the estuary out towards the Southern Alps, as well as providing extensive indoor living spaces. With the removal of internal walls came the need for the introduction of steel beams throughout much of the property. This was an extensive project for Simplexity, and the end result is a truly incredible home. There is a high level of finishing throughout the home, with, for example, 900 x 900 x 25 millimetre thick Italian tiles covering much of the first-floor indoor space and bathrooms, and seven coats of lacquer on the front door to achieve a gleaming, high-quality entranceway. The double sided fire place gives the added warmth and ambiance in 2 living spaces to enjoy.  The homeowners were also wanting a warm, energy-efficient home. Simplexity removed and then re-installed over 20 solar panels and solar hot-water heating tubes to meet this requirement. The solar tubes, for instance, heat the outdoor swimming pool and the reliance on the solar panels makes the home comfortable, efficient, quiet and clean all year round. Surrounded by lush vegetation, this home was a delight to build. The exquisite craftsmanship by Simplexity means that now all the details line up, and the homeowners can enjoy knowing they are living in an incredibly modern, energy-efficient and welcoming home.
