This four-bedroom beauty in North Canterbury was a dream to build for Simplexity Builders. Everything about the build was a delight. With high-spec materials and finishes used throughout, this home is what you could call a past, present and future home.
The homeowners were looking to downsize and wanted to honour some of their past and bring aspects of their previous residence into the design of a new abode. So they worked with an architectural designer to create a two-storey 276 square metres dwelling that is both contemporary and strikingly classic. There’s a sense of past grandeur while also looking forward to a modern era and practical, thoughtful set-up. Also important to the homeowners was the maximising of light penetration into the home, as well as an easy flow floor plan and connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Future-proofing was also considered, with an integrated lift to aid those unable to use the stairs, now or in the future. The design allows the home to maintain all-round privacy at the same time as generating an openness towards the expansive views. There’s also a nod to the local park next door, where the occasional neighbourly interaction takes place with park users – whatever their stage of life.

And these homeowners were no exception. Fun times were had throughout the build, with great relationships forged between the team and the homeowners. There was also talk of Simplexity’s foreman becoming the homeowners’ new adopted son –such was the strength of their relationship and bond!
It was also a chance for the Simplexity team to showcase their exquisite attention to detail in the detailing of this home. Clad in a combination of Resene Rockcote and Hardies Axon Panel, the house weaves its way around a set of upper and lower decks and outdoor spaces to capture the all-day sun and allow for a variety of dining and entertaining options.
On entering this special home, your eye is instantly drawn to the stairs, with the beautiful American white oak floor-to-ceiling slats, allowing the light to dance around the walls of the home at each stage of the day. Open spaces prevail, particularly on the upper floor, with a large living, dining and kitchen area providing a perfect space for entertaining. There’s an easy flow from the kitchen to the scullery and a day bed adds that touch of luxe to the space, so the homeowners can enjoy the all-day sunny spot while taking in the views.
Other interesting detailing includes the expansive up-spec’ed kitchen benchtop, which traverses straight to the window edges creating a sense of connection with the outdoors. The custom-made vanities are also beautifully positioned, and the sizeable glass balustrades are perfectly placed and installed.
The homeowners are revelling in their beautiful, forever home, and Simplexity is delighted with another outstanding project completed. This is one dose of joy that just keeps on giving!
