Adam l Living Sofa Collection | Natuzzi Italia

A sofa is easy to judge by how it looks and much harder to choose without sitting on it. After all, this is the place where people stretch out after work, gather with friends, watch a film or lose a few hours on a quiet weekend.

Comfort is personal. Some people want a deep seat and cushions they can properly sink into. Others prefer something a little more supportive, but still soft enough to make getting up feel optional.

Fortunately, comfort no longer has to come at the expense of good design. These five sofas take different routes to the same relaxed feeling, from low upholstered modules and wraparound curves to generous cushioning and seating that moves with the body.

Adam Living Sofa Collection by Natuzzi Italia

The Adam Living Sofa Collection brings a relaxed mood to the room without feeling overly casual.

Created by Natuzzi Italia in collaboration with Marcel Wanders, the collection takes inspiration from the restful atmosphere of the Mediterranean countryside. It is intended to feel familiar and lasting, rather than designed around a passing trend.

Adam suits a living room that needs to feel comfortable but still pulled together. It has enough presence to anchor the space, while keeping the overall mood warm, easy and welcoming.

Extrasoft Sofa from Space Furniture

The name says a lot. The Extrasoft Sofa from Space Furniture is made up of low, generously upholstered modules that sit together like a landscape of oversized cushions.

Designed by Piero Lissoni, it does away with much of the rigid structure associated with a traditional sofa. The result feels informal and spacious, with plenty of room to stretch out, put your feet up or settle into a corner.

Its modular design also means the sofa can change with the room. The sections can be rearranged for conversation, opened up for larger gatherings or spread out to create more room for lounging. It is comfortable in a way that feels natural rather than overly styled.

Sunday Sofa by Poliform

The Sunday Sofa from Poliform has the right name for a design centred around rest.

Created by Flaviano Caprotti, its curved and asymmetrical form wraps gently around the sitter. Different seat depths allow for different ways of getting comfortable, from sitting upright with a coffee to leaning back for a slower afternoon.

Sunday is also designed to sit in the middle of a room rather than being pushed against a wall. Its curves give people somewhere to gather while helping the living room feel softer and less formal.

Ellie Sofa by Fanuli

For anyone who likes a sofa to feel soft but not look slouchy, the Ellie Sofa by Fanuli finds a comfortable middle ground.

Australian-made and designed, Ellie combines generous proportions with tailored cushioning. There is room to properly settle in, but the sofa still keeps a clean and composed shape.

That balance makes it easy to picture in a wide range of homes. It can bring softness to a more minimal interior or create a calm foundation for a room layered with artwork, lighting and personal objects.

Stressless Stella Modular Sofa

Not everyone sits still. The Stressless Stella Modular Sofa is designed to move as the person sitting on it changes position.

The seat responds when someone reclines, leans forward, lies down or puts their feet up. Instead of asking the body to adjust to one fixed position, the sofa adapts throughout the day.

Its modular format also allows the seating to be arranged around the size of the room and the way it is used. When movement is not needed, the function can be locked so Stella behaves like a more conventional sofa.

A living room worth staying in

A comfortable sofa does not need to look oversized, shapeless or purely practical. It can be low and modular, softly curved, carefully tailored or designed to move with the body.

What connects these five sofas is the invitation to stay a little longer. Each one makes room for the everyday moments that living rooms are actually used for, whether that is a conversation, an afternoon nap or an evening spent doing very little.
