Camellia House in Northbridge, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, transforms a 1940s brick residence into a contemporary home for a growing family. Completed in 2026 by Matic by Design, the renovation replaces a jumble of confined, disconnected rooms with a cohesive, light-filled layout. By reversing the home’s arrangement, the design gives bedrooms private views of the rocky outcrop while opening the main living spaces towards the green valley beyond.
Natural light, generous spaces and thoughtful connections shape a home that feels welcoming and intuitive to live in. Everyday functionality receives equal attention, with a carefully planned laundry responding to a key client priority. A library, wine cellar and double-sided fireplace enrich the shared spaces, while a secret door leads to the parents’ retreat.
Outside, the pool was designed around an existing tree retained to meet council requirements, sensitively accommodating the established landscape. Balancing family gathering spaces with opportunities for quiet retreat, Camellia House brings contemporary refinement and everyday practicality into harmony with its surroundings.
