HOTEL LOBBY: A brand with an internationally recognized brand palette. A lobby area that has multiple zones including high-traffic reception, lounge and fireside to relax.

BRIEF: Provide visual and acoustic softness, maintain a flexible floor plan, tie in brand colours and reflect the surrounding local landscape to bring context to the space.

RESPONSE: Plus Architecture worked with Heritage Carpets to design custom rugs to delineate both the lounge area and the fireside relaxing zone.

The round rug: to set off the round soft seating, Heritage Carpets designed and supplied a bespoke rug that tied in the brand yellow, also dominant in the curved sofa. Continuing the rug beyond the fireplace adds a quirk of design that entices travellers to use the fireplace as a warm respite. The textures and colours in the rug soften the clean lines of the space.

The rectangular rug: the textures in this bespoke flooring solution again soften the space and provide acoustic relief in a space with hard-wearing, hard surfaces. The colours represent the autumnal mountain landscape of an evening, with the rust tones and deep browns of hillsides of burnt tussock. Blue and pink represent the Southern sky at dusk. Deeper charcoal “shadows” connect to the fire-side rug across the same space.
