A contemporary workplace design by Warren and Mahoney, inspired by Ngā Hau e Whā, featuring a serene interior palette and sustainable carpet solutions, completed in 2025.
Warren + Mahoney’s design for the Inland Revenue Christchurch project is a welcoming, calm workplace that connects people, and people to place.
The design is inspired by Ngā Hau e Whā - The Four Winds - reflecting nature, navigation and balance. The interior palette symbolises the unique characteristics of each wind, and the geometric carpet layout design emulates the essence of the Canterbury Plains.
The designers worked with Heritage Carpets to deliver 2980m2 of carpet tiles that met both the stringent environmental goals and aesthetics for the project. The Heritage Carpets design consultants provided detailed environmental documentation for carbon tracking, collaborating closely regarding sustainable choices and colour matching.
Specifying 500 x 500cm carpet tiles optimised the geometries of the design. Large square sections with 45° cuts to create diagonals simplified installation and delivered the minimalist, serene aesthetic the design team wanted.
