Materiality supports the broader design vision

Samsung’s Auckland workplace, designed and delivered by Unispace, demonstrates how thoughtful material selection can play a pivotal role in shaping both user experience and overall design success—with Heritage Carpets contributing significantly to the outcome.

At the heart of the fitout is a series of flexible, interconnected neighbourhoods that promote visibility across teams and support a range of working styles. Within this dynamic environment, flooring became a key tool for defining space, guiding movement, and reinforcing the design narrative.

Heritage Carpets partnered with the design team to supply commercial carpet tiles that introduced a nature-inspired palette and pattern language. These elements were carefully curated to align with the project’s biophilic design intent, supporting a workplace that prioritises wellbeing, comfort, and visual connection to natural cues.

Beyond aesthetics, the carpet tiles played a functional role in delineating zones—helping to distinguish between collaboration areas, focused workspaces, training rooms, and social hubs without the need for physical barriers. The flexibility of the product allowed for seamless transitions between these zones, enhancing both usability and cohesion across the floorplate.

The contribution of Heritage Carpets also supported practical project outcomes. The modularity and performance of the carpet tiles enabled efficient installation within the project’s 12-week construction programme, while meeting the durability requirements of a high-use commercial environment.

The result is a cohesive and high-performing workplace where materiality actively supports the broader design vision—enhancing employee experience, reinforcing spatial clarity, and contributing to a refined, brand-aligned environment for Samsung’s Auckland team.
