This double-bay Ponsonby villa had a very skinny low-roofed lean-to which housed a dreary kitchen, and the bathrooms and laundry needed to be updated. Our client was keen to remove the lean-to and build a new addition housing the kitchen. Our design solution was to relocate the kitchen further back into the former dining room so that the new dining/living area could open straight onto the deck and garden beyond.
The addition has transformed the once pokey living area into a bright and modern space. By lifting the ceiling height over the new addition the room seems much larger. The house feels twice the size but the footprint remains unchanged.
New extra tall bi-folding doors open the house to the fabulous “green wall” (designed and curated by our client). The new timber deck, with extra-wide boards, serves as an all-year-round outdoor living area.
